We were really happy with the car during practice. Qualifying was pretty stressful. We had to wait until the very end to see if we made it. We did, and the car was just great in the race. “We proved to a lot of people that we are competitive. It felt good passing those guys. The more experience we get, and we’ll get that, we’ll put together the entire package. We have to get that end result. We know we can do it, but know we just have to go do it. “Obviously we’re more prepared. We have been able to catch-up at the shop. Billy (crew chief Billy Wilburn) and the rest of the crew have really worked hard in getting more cars prepared. We’re a lot further ahead.. We just need to make it happen at the track now. “This weekend really is the start of our season. We’ll be looking to race about every other weekend from now until the end of the season. That will help us get better at the track. I think we can start to get into a routine. These past few weeks have given us the time to get things in order at the shop. “I haven’t raced at the track before, but I know it is fast. It’s going to be the fastest that I’ve ever raced. I can’t wait. I love speed and love going fast. I guess it’s why I race cars for a living. Texas seems to be a great place to further my career experience. The speeds are some of the fastest at Texas. “I’ve been pretty good running laps with Jerry (driver consultant Jerry Nadeau) on the simulator. Hopefully I can transfer some of that experience to the real thing. We’ll see. It’s going to be a learning experience, but that’s what this year is about for us. Texas is just a really fast place. Hopefully we can get up to speed quickly and have a good run Saturday. Link: GILLILAND IS READY FOR SPEED

GILLILAND IS READY FOR SPEED
This weekend, David Gilliland and the #84 Clay Andrews Racing Chevrolet team head to the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway for Saturday’s O’Reilly 300.
Clay Andrews Racing will be looking to make their second start of the season. The team made their race debut earlier this year at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gilliland raced from the 43rd starting position to 17th in the first 54 laps of the race. Gilliland was one of the fastest cars on the track before problems on pit road knocked the team out of contention. Gilliland finished 39th.
Gilliland, a native of Riverside, California, has three prior NASCAR Busch Series starts. The rookie driver has never raced at the Texas Motor Speedway, but has extensive “virtual” laps at the speedway behind Jerry Nadeau’s start-of-the-art computer race simulator.
The team has not been resting when not racing. The team has spent the past three weeks completing and preparing up to four cars in the Clay Andrews Racing stable. The team also spent two days testing last week at the Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.
Clay Andrews Racing is looking to build a reputation as one of the fastest-growing teams in the Busch Series. They have acquired a 28,000 state-of-the-art race shop in Statesville, N.C., and owner, Clay Andrews, has already appointed winning personnel. Motorsports professional Rich Gautreau is the general manager and veteran crew chief Billy Wilburn will lead Gilliland in 2006. Former Nextel Cup winner Jerry Nadeau serves as the team’s consultant. The team plans to run a partial schedule in 2006 while securing sponsorship for the long-term future.
Questions for Gilliland as he prepares for Texas:
What did you learn during the team’s first race at Las Vegas?
How have you prepared to make that end result happen this weekend?
What do you know about Texas?
