: I suppose we all need our guru's.
:
: It seems when we are expanding our minds, to
: sense the boundless, any ship that sails is
: worthy. However without our feet on the
: earth our heads might lead us to
: destruction.
:
: in peace,
: gar
:
:
:
: Without one foot on the ground you become a
: Space-Cadet.
:
:
: rat & friends,
:
: The guru's job is to get us to a place where
: we realize we don't need a guru. To a place
: where we become our own guru.
:
: I could be wrong but I think this is all
: Osho was trying to do. Get rich people to
: realize things are just things.
:
: Yes, I am a fan of Osho. Of his writings. As
: for his life he never pretended to be
: anything other than a spiritual rebel. It
: seems to me our world is in need of
: spiritual rebellion. Rebellion against
: religious dogma, against the religious
: mindset.
:
: Personally, I find it refreshing when a
: person like Osho says, "Here I am, take
: me or leave me. Idiosynchracies and
: all."
:
: We all have our quirks. No, the Hannibal
: Lector's of the world are not quirky. They
: are quite mad. It is senseless to suggest
: otherwise. Idiotic even. A idiosynchracy
: gone too far. Think Hitler. Or even just
: your everyday PedeoPriest. Love the sinner,
: hate the sin.
:
: Variety is the spice of life.
:
: As for having one foot on the ground, what
: the heck does that mean? What if a person
: doesn't have any legs? Is such a person by
: default less than the rest of us? Get up off
: your ass might be quite an accomplishment
: for a man with no legs. Should we ban such a
: person? How would they leave? Just drag
: yourself out of here mister.
:
: Ok, I will drag my sorry ass out of here.
: Thought you would never ask. It takes
: courage, or stupidity, to say something that
: goes against the grain of groupthink. Either
: way, maybe we should just kill the
: messenger. Crucify him. Lucky for Osho he is
: dead or he would be in real trouble now.
:
: Now, before everyone starts taking pot shots
: at me let me remind each of you that my peg
: leg is still in the shop. As such I am going
: to have to sit this one out as I don't want
: to be the only one legged man at an ass
: kicking party.
:
: I may be a dumbass but I am not stupid. No
: I'm knot.
:
: Hey, get your own rope.
:
: One more thing. If it would make anyone feel
: better I like Cadillacs.
:
: ButchO
:
: "o say something that goes against the
: grain of groupthink."
:
: Okay, I will say something groupthink
: Butcho. When a man parades around in a big
: car with his guards walking beside the car
: with automatic rifles, I begin to wonder. I
: begin to wonder how deep his purported
: non-attachment goes.
:
: love,
: rat
:
: i live in the land of osho (now) -- southern
: oregon. i know people who knew of him, and
: some who followed him. i moved here after
: his ashram was scattered to the four winds,
: so to speak.
:
: there's two sides to every story, and then
: there's the truth, as the ojibway would say.
: however...seems to me his guru path was
: also, from what some of the reported
: circumstances say, an example of how 'power
: corrupts'.
:
: goes back to the daoist principle of not
: leading.... but osho was from what i
: understand definitely 'leading'.
:
:
: Isabeau,
:
: Osho was a rat.
:
: ButchO
:
: hi butch --
:
: do you mean he was a rat as in
: a) leaving a sinking ship (his own, which
: would be rather amusing in a sad way)
: b) betrayed his followers (he wouldn't be
: the first guru to do so)
: or
: c) that he was born in the year of the rat
: and therefore was an excellent survivor?
:
: my guess is that you're going to either a)
: or b), or a combination thereof.
:
: regardless, it's good to get a perspective
: from someone who was here when he was active
: in building his community (as well as his
: armaments).
:
: thanks,
: isabeau
:
: isabeau,
:
: Actually I was picking fun at our resident
: self-proclaimed sage raymond, aka rat.
:
: Part of enlightenment is to lighen up.
:
: And yet, I am not condoning those that take
: advantage of other's weaknesses. The I need
: a daddy, I need a mommy, I need a guru,
: types.
:
: I think we should leave such neurotic
: relationships to the Capitalists. They are
: much more adept at taking advantage of
: other's weaknesses than any other group I
: know of. Steal from the poor to give to the
: rich types, you know, Republicans. Ok,
: Republicans and their minions of morons. The
: Moron Majority that voted for George Bush,
: Twice.
:
: Yes, everything is perfect just as it is.
: Nothing can leave the Tao. Nothing can be
: out of accord. Do as you please. Anything
: goes. The words of charlatans and
: false-gurus. The kinds of words Republican
: strategists like to hear. Tell me what I
: want to hear mr. polster or I will find
: myself another pole to lean on.
:
: Fact is, do as you please is only appropo to
: those that are living self-examined lives.
: For only the person that has looked within
: first is in a position to rightly address
: the without. And not very many have done as
: much. Most are fixated on external events,
: not realizing their own complicity in the
: madness. To tell the insane that it is
: perfectly fine to be mad is mad. The blind
: leading the blind.
:
: Maybe there are worse gurus than Osho. More
: sinister types. Less obvious but more
: harmful in a myriad of ways. Wolves in
: lamb's clothing types. Wolves that make
: someone like Osho seem relatively harmless.
: Small potatoes.
:
: The problem is that most of us think we are
: separate discreet beings. No such separate
: being exists outside of thinking it so. I
: give you, the ego. The conditioned ego. The
: sense of self conditioned by the interplay
: of this or that. Divided by fixating on one
: aspect of a polarity at the expense of its
: seemingly opposite, separate, pole. Good vs.
: Evil. Republican vs. Democrat. Man vs.
: Woman. God vs. Satan. East vs. West. Right
: brain vs. Left. Divided. Schizophrenic.
:
: Please don't take my diatribe personally.
: Unless of course the shoe fits, in which
: case you are in luck as I am having a two
: for one sale.
:
: Lighten up.
:
: rat doesn't like it when I burn strawdogs,
: says it is inhumane, or some such
: protestation. Good heart, that rat. But,
: like all wannabe logicians, a little simple
: minded at times. Hey, nobody is perfect.
: Except of course Steve. I kid Steve. I
: actually pretty much agree with him if he
: would just state himself in a little more
: holistic way. Which, glad to say, he seems
: to be doing more and more lately. I digress.
: Adept's perogative.
:
: No, I am not a sage. But I am adept. Except
: of course when I am not adept. Which may or
: may not be now. I like to think there is a
: method to my madness, but one can never be
: certain about such things.
:
: Buddha's have said it takes a Buddha to
: recognize a Buddha. I'll take their word for
: it. Guru's can be helpful. Can be the very
: best of friends. But only we can transform
: our lives. No one can do it for us. Unless
: you agree with those that would argue that
: the reason we can do it for ourselves is
: because the ability was given to us by
: existence. Infinite regression, again.
:
: So, what is left for me is compassion.
: Albeit at times I express my compassion in
: the form of tough love. Yeah, I'm quite the
: guy. But I still can't get rat to buy me a
: Cadillac. He is such a tease. Assures me
: that he is going to explain himself when he
: gets round to it. Let's do lunch. That sort
: of thing.
:
: I hope you keep posting here. You, and the
: others that have restarted posting here
: lately. Please don't let me run you off. I
: mean well, most of the time.

hi butch --
so, if i condense this properly...pole dancing? you may not be a sage by you're a thyme (or a rosemary?) ;-)
logic is a funny thing. and raymond is a funny guy!
sometimes, i'm not sure if we transform ourselves, or if we are transformed (whether we like it or not!)
i would aver that'doing as one pleases' only works for the person who's embarked on the shoe-wearing path to self-actualization because there's pleasure, and then there's pleasure...english is such a sloppy language, but sometimes that can be fun ;-) when it's not exasperating, that is!
watch out for those backbends when you're pole dancing, and remember a little thyme goes a long way ;-)
oh, and Osho certainly wasn't the worst of the gurus, i think Jim Jones and David Koresh have set the bar for 'worst' in that regard pretty high. Or low. Again, english is a sloppy language, but sometimes, truths reveal themselves even through this lingua franca.
if rat gets you a cadillac, make sure it's a gently used one, so that all the quirks have already been worked out (somewhere between 20K and 40K mileage on it would probably be good). And not black, it shows up all the dirt even faster than a white car (but puddy prints are sure cute on black cars!).
