I don't doubt for a moment that your practice works for you, rat. Any practice that (1) excludes the possibility of there being spiritual peril in the universe, (2) does no harm to others, and (3) brings contentment, is good and valid in my books.
Me, I think I am immune from spiritual peril even when I draw fundamental conclusions ("there is a god" or "there is no god"), because I sense the dao encompasses all of my conclusions and all of the human need and frailty that leads to them. All of my need "to get it right."
I'm free to call a mountain "beautiful" or "ugly" because there is no underlying and objective peril in me getting it wrong.
I'm safe either way, and sensing that brings me great joy and contentment.
