: i do understand what you're saying Steve but
: essentially why should we just scrape by?
: Why should we simply exist within the
: confines of our comfort zone?
:
: Obviously not everyone is going to be
: inclined to step outside the loop of their
: individual existence, their incessant ups
: and downs? And why should they?
:
: If all you have known is life inside the
: loop then how can you decide what life may
: be like outside of it? Ime, it all comes
: within the scope of our potential human
: experience so why have to make do with a
: life swung to and fro by emotional and
: psychological impulse?
:
: Again that is an individuals choice and a
: purely subjective experience. Anyone who
: advocates that we must all follow a one,
: true way is a liar and a fraud and should be
: strung upside down from something.

Lots of people live happy and productive lives, do not consciously participate in any religious/spiritual practice, have never heard of 'dao,' etc. etc. 'Happy,' for them, includes the downs as well as the ups.
If you (generic 'you') are unhappy or feel you lack something, than it makes sense to take action. Why be miserable? The 'something' could be cultivation, or finding someone to love, or devouring an entire box of chocolate-covered cherries at one sitting. Whatever it takes.
Bottom line: Do what you need to do, but don't profess to know what others need to do.
