Well, the "Survival of the Fittest Desire" Rule works for me; Desires that are useful/productive tend to hang around. Those that aren't tend to fall away in time--to the extent that I get out of the way and don't interfere with the process.
(You haven't addressed my quandary--concerning how one goes about calming/controlling/reigning in desire through the exercise of desire.)
