: Hi Steve
:
: The main thing Rene claims about the
: message of Laozi is that there is nothing to
: do, you are already perfectly in tune with
: the dao. This is your claim as well, as I
: understand it.
:
: Those of us who suspect there is
: something to do in Laozi, do it just as we
: take a shower to feel better after being on
: a sandy beach. We don't claim to be any
: better normatively, by having taken a
: shower. We don't claim we are fundamentally
: better by being free from sand. Do you see
: any difference? When we do it (wei wu wei)
: we seem to feel better. No more than that.

:
: Yes, Rene's claim is my claim too. As a
: matter of fact, much of my vocabulary comes
: from her.
:
: She is silk. I am sandpaper. That's the
: difference.

:
: "We don't claim to be any better
: normatively...."
:
: My friend, you are a cultivator with a
: difference.
:
: Among cultivators who express themselves on
: these boards, you are in a small minority.
: As perceptive as you are, I'm guessing you
: already know that.
:
: Oak Boy's view is fairly typical of most
: cultivators on the boards--though he's
: somewhat over the top even for most of them.
: He believes--sincerely, I believe--and from
: a place of compassion--that there are
: winners and losers in the universe, and that
: meditators constitute the former and
: non-meditators, the latter.
:
: This is the 'Dao of the iPod,' which I named
: after a master on a board I once posted on.
: In the Dao of the iPod, cultivators are in
: harmony with the dao and as a result realize
: wondrous results. Health. Longevity. The
: ability to afford things like iPods.
:
: ***
:
: This is no good, rat.
:
: Say something provocative, and let's get
: this baby on the road again.
:
Thanks Steve, and if I can't say something intellectually provocative, I will say something stupid. That usually gets us going.
I agree, wonderous results are suspect. More useful for me is the astonishing wonder of the mundane world.
By the way, glad to see Rene is back with Laoist Temple.
love,
rat
