Hi Steve
The main thing Rene claims about the message of Laozi is that there is nothing to do, you are already perfectly in tune with the dao. This is your claim as well, as I understand it.
Those of us who suspect there is something to do in Laozi, do it just as we take a shower to feel better after being on a sandy beach. We don't claim to be any better normatively, by having taken a shower. We don't claim we are fundamentally better by being free from sand. Do you see any difference? When we do it (wei wu wei) we seem to feel better. No more than that.
