: I have a problem with anyone interpreting
: Heaven being Yang and Earth being Yin.
:
: Only a Male dominated Society would make
: such a claim.
-------------------------
: i think...
: this claim is a misunderstanding
:
: it is far away from Laozi's view -
:
: is it because viewing it statically?
:
: in ddj 42 you find the sentence:
: chong qi yi wei he
:
: qi being in flow then there will be a
: dynamical peace
:
: heaven and earth being separated but not
: isolated - they remain in interaction - and
: humans remain part of the whole
: neither yang is dominating ...nor yin is
: dominating
: water rises to heaven - and returns to
: earth...

The mystical idea of Earth as 'feminine' and Heaven as 'masculine' has many roots.
As I understand it, in Jewish mysticism there is the notion of the People of God (the Shekhinah, the Sabbath Bride, the female principle) rising up in reverence and obedience to God (the male principle) and rejoicing in a kind of metaphorical sexual intercourse. To this day, many Orthodox Jews consider the Sabbath to be a particularly propitious time for husband and wife to...um...get it on.
(Well, that's what my granddaddy taught me. Additions/subtractions/corrections are welcome.)
