Nothing new there. Ennui gas has been around for thousands of years, emitted from the rear ends of countless gurus, prophets, priests, masters, and gods.
It goes something like this:
"I know something you don't know. Your pleasures and happiness are illusions. There's something really really pleasurable and happy out there, but you don't see it because you're not enlightened.
To be enlightened, you have to do things and work hard. You have to leave everything you know behind. What you've been doing up until now has been wrong.
But--if you get very sick or very old or very tired--or say you develop Alzheimer's Disease or move somewhere where there are no books, Internet, gurus, prophets, priests, or masters--you're out of luck. There's no hope that you'll ever be enlightened or know happiness, because you won't know what to do."

"The Tao is basically utterly open. Utter openeness has no substance. It ends in endlessness, begins in beginninglessnes".
