It is amazing how the Bejing government adamantly maintains that "Tibet is an integral part of China," all the time freely admitting that the Tibetans are not Chinese, and have a long history of being a separate country with it's own kings. But then again, much the same could be said about Hawaii and the United States.

: Sorry, But it's Mao Zhuxi (Chairman Mao).
: He's the one who told the Dalai Lama that
: "religion is poison." Personally,
: i can't much argue with him there.

: Thank you for the correction! My efforts at
: Chinese are deplorable.
:
: It is hard for me to look at Tibet's
: history and not say they were stifled and
: oppressed by a theocratic feudal system,
: where even the reading of a book required
: permission. The Chinese have brought to the
: country plumbing, electricity, and
: education, something that the monks had no
: interest in doing.
:
: Having said that, there is no excuse for the
: way the Chinese have treated Tibet and are
: treating Tibet. As such, I do urge boycotts,
: including a boycott of the Olympics (which
: always rapes its host city in the end,
: anyhow--see this month's The Progressive ).
:
: Is there no middle way possible for Tibet?
:
: Waywardly,
