Posted by Aurther Alden To find out what your computer name is right click on "My Computer" there should be a tab called computer name. It will be there. Make sure you do not use the workgroup name instead, won't work. (tried it, failed miserably *sighs*) If they have right click disabled like most schools do, go to start->Settings->Control Pannel. There you will find a program called "System" click it. The computer name will be somewhere in there. Hope this helps, P.S. Surprisingly enough I was trying to do the same at my school. Yes you can use computer names instead of IP addresses on a LAN connection. Unfortunetly if you are using a LAN the ip address is the same for all the computers connected to it. But the computer names WILL be different.
