While I agree with you Paul, for the most part, I feel that Saks could have handled this situation better if indeed Winona Ryder is guilty of shoplifting at their store. It didn't have to become all of this brouhaha and instead could have been dealt with privately like simply bringing to her attention the fact that they know what she did and simply bill her for the merchandise and that would have been the end of it. She would, could privately feel the embarrassment and guilt of her actions instead of this public witchhunt and trial. I include the prosecution in this too. They are going after Winona with a vengeance, but why? That's what doesn't seem right to me. It just seems exaggerated. Celebrities shouldn't be above the law or above the common folk, although we do as a society tend to put them upon pedestals and so maybe we feel a little more badly for them when confronted with such trouble, at least some of us do. Then there are the celebrities that are treated with kid gloves. Why not Winona too? Some get pulled over for drunk driving and whatnot. That's potential manslaughter and they get a warning. How is that fair or just? It's just not I guess.
