Elrond tried hard to conceal his smile at the concern the young elf showed for this stranger. He placed a hand on Legolas' shoulder and said, "She was very weak, but I believe she shall make a full recovery. I must attend to the halfling now. Send for me at once if there is any change in her condition." Legolas nodded and took a seat next to the bed, taking her hand in his. He had been concentrating so hard on her face, almost willing her to open her eyes, that he did not hear the door open or close. He was startled out of his daze when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking up he saw a ranger, clothed all in black. "What have you got here, Legolas," the ranger asked. "A female elf," Legolas replied. "My companions tell me that you brought four halflings to Rivendell. The one that was stabbed by the Morgul blade, will he be all right?" "It's still touch and go," the ranger replied with a sigh. "I have complete confidence in Lord Elrond's healing skills. Do you know what happened to her?" "No," Legolas replied frowning. "I found her in the road on my way here. Elrond has been healing her, but still she sleeps." "Do not worry," the ranger said smiling kindly at the elf. "Elrond is a master of healing and she will awaken soon." Legolas nodded and focused his attention back on the elf. Without another word the ranger left. The sound of soft moaning awoke Legolas out of a light slumber. Opening his eyes, he saw the female elf thrashing and muttering something in elvish. Leaning in closer he realized that she was begging for her life. Speaking softly and slowly he began to reassure her in elvish tongue. He took her hands in his and repeated over and over that she was safe. Feeling her muscles relaxing he began to pull her to him for safety, but she swung her fist and it connected with his jaw sending him to the floor. An ear splitting scream emitted from her lips and she fell out of the bed and cowered in the corner, waiting to see who her "attacker" was. Legolas got to his feet and calmly crossed the room. She sat huddled in the corner, her breath coming in ragged jags. "I won't harm you," he said calmly in elvish. "I found you in the road and brought you here to be healed." Her deep brown eyes darted around the room in search of something to defend herself with. "What happened to you? How were you injured?" Legolas sat down on the floor in front of her now and urged her to talk with his eyes. She inhaled and exhaled to calm her nerves and began to speak softly and shakily. "I was returning home from visiting with friends when riders in black...I don't know how many....came up from behind. They pursued me for what seemed like ages." She drew in a raspy breath. "They overtook me, knocked me off my horse. I must have hit my head on a rock." She reached up and felt the gash that was now half it's size. "Where am I now?" "You are in the house of Elrond in Rivendell," he said standing and helping her up off the floor. "I am Legolas Greenleaf of Mirkwood." Her eyes grew wide at the name. "What is your name?" "Illuminaria," she replied tightly. "Also of Mirkwood." Legolas practically did a double take. How could he have not known her if she was from his homeland? "I wasn't born there," she said quickly seeing the questions in his eyes. "I visited one day when I was younger and fell in love with it." He smiled knowing that it would be easy for any elf to fall in love with Mirkwood. "I must go get Lord Elrond to look you over," he said. "He'll want to know that his patient is on the mend." She nodded and settled back on the pillows. "My dear girl," Elrond said with a smile as he entered Illuminaria's room. "How are you feeling?" "Weak still my lord," she replied. "Legolas tells me you survived an attack by the Nazgul," Elrond said examining the wound on her forehead. "Nazgul," she replied. "The riders were..." Before she could finish her statement she had fainted. Elrond shook his head. "Poor girl," he muttered. He exited the room leaving her to rest. "She's still weak," he told Legolas. "She needs her rest, as do you. Go get some sleep while you can." Legolas, nodded hesitantly, not wanting to leave Illiminaria's side.
