His companion, Legolas Greenleaf, had slowed his stallion down to a trot, eyes fixed on the road ahead. "Someone lies in the road injured," the Prince of Mirkwood replied. "Leave him my lord," his other companion said. "We're due in Rivendell mere hours from now and we've still much more land to cross. Lord Elrond will be expecting us and we can not afford to lose time." "Go on ahead of me," Legolas said stopping his steed next to the fallen body. "Tell Lord Elrond that his gift of healing will be needed when I've arrived." He gracefully dismounted his horse and stooped down to examine the person. His companions glanced at each other and shook their heads before speeding ahead to Rivendell. Turning over the fallen body, Legolas gasped as he took in the features he knew all too well. "An elf," he muttered. "A female elf." Her porcelain skin was paler than normal and her naturally rosy lips were a pale pink. Her deep brown waves of hair were tangled and blood soaked. He saw a gash on her forehead, which had to be hours, if not days old. The blood had congealed and formed a crude brownish scab across her pale skin. "Who could have done such a thing," he questioned her unconscious face. Recieving no answer, he gently lifted her limp body into his arms and placed her on his horse. Mounting behind her and holding her close to him, he urged the noble steed on in a full gallop. He knew that she was holding onto life by a thread and needed to get her to Elrond where she could be healed. Seeing the familiar sights of Rivendell ahead he urged his stallion on until he reached his destination. "Where will I find Lord Elrond," Legolas asked the dark haired elf that greeted him as he dismounted with the female elf cradled in his arms. "He is with Gandalf the Grey healing an injured halfling who was stabbed by a Morgul blade. We're not certain he'll make it," replied the elf. "I found an injured elf in the road," Legolas replied. "She's in need of Elrond's healing as well." "Come this way," the elf said and led Legolas through the halls into a room. "Lay her on the bed and I will fetch Lord Elrond." Legolas nodded and set the unconscious female down. He brushed some hair out of her face and gazed down at her, admiring what he imagined were once flawless features. It angered him that someone or something could have marred such a beautiful creature. "Legolas, what have you brought me," Elrond said entering the room. "An injured female elf," he replied bowing to the Lord of Rivendell. "I found her lying in the road. She's clinging to life, but for how much longer I know not." "You did well to bring her here," Elrond said placing a hand on the younger elf's shoulder. "You may go to your room while I heal her. Gandalf has requested that the council be postponed until his hobbit friend awakens. That could take hours or days. Please rest while you can." "I will go rest for a while, but I will return in a few hours to sit by her side," Legolas said, unable to figure out why he was so drawn to the unconscious female. Elrond half smiled and nodded in approval before he returned his attention to the injured elf in the bed.
