There isn't a WWI equivalent series to the "SHIPS-2" camouflage manuals but there is a fair bit in the "Painting and Cementing series if one goes through one. The 1918 copy is posted online here. Note that the "Details for White / Camouflage" section makes no mention of decks and the section on wood decks also makes no mention of paint. The list of paints does not list any stains, nor is there any mention in the index, while there is for pains, cements, shellacs, asphalt, and others.
Long winded way of saying "not painted for camouflage."
