NOTE: when Gato was overhauled at Mare Island, additional limber holes were cut in addition to the Electric Boat "half circle" pattern. As far as I know, this modification is unique to SS-212. No other EB Gato submarine was modified with additional limber holes cut into the side. Limber holes with the "half circle' were on EB and follow on yard Manitowoc boats, Portsmouth, Mare Island and Cramp yard all had the Government design longitudinal slots as limber holes.
One not so obvious mistake is that by 1943, the portside anchor was no longer carried and the recess was plated over. Originally a few EB boats had both anchors, but EB settled on Starboard anchor only, the Portsmouth and follows on yards had Portside anchors only.
Did not see the propellers provided. Kind of an important point, as the old Revell LIonfish comes with screws that both turn in the same directions, not clockwise (starboard) and counterclockwise (port).
So, adding railings and plating over the portside anchor well will give you a reasonably accurate SS-212. Any other EB design Gato will require getting rid of the extra limber holes other than the half-circle ones.
Need info in this kit seen on that site that can't be mentioned...
SSMODEL 954S 1/400 Military Warship Model USN GATO Submarine SS-212 (Full hull)
Does anyone have any experience with this line?
How is their accuracy?
Was hoping to find the Dolphin kit. but the USN seem to be unavailable (announced but never released?) and the Italian versions would require resin replacements (conning tower, AAA, etc).
