Okay, so now that we've done Bismarck, we'll move on to... TICONDEROGA CGs!! Yes!!! We'll sell a million...
I am as in the dark as the next person (likely actually more so) when it comes to what these companies are thinking. But, the idiots who guided me in my youth taught me to reason things out, and seek the sensible answers which always existed in every situation. It is hard to kill this naive upbringing, but I am eventually learning. There ARE no sensible answers! It's all wackadoodle! Wheee!
Okay, getting serious now. Mark is clearly the wisest amongst us. I will know more after I go make some tea.
What frustrates me is the sister ship issue. The basic forms are already available, and Flyhawk has announced sisters to Bismarck, Königsberg, Naiad, and the L class destroyers among others. These would require less ground work than some of the other promised releases. But still, we wait!
Agreed. To get such quality requires extraordinary research. "Above and beyond" a basic level which a company like Trumpeter would be satisfied with. Which is why the Trumpeter Lincoln, while really very nice, and a huge advance over earlier carrier kits, is still a bit lacking. They used old Russian drawings. When available, Trumpeter will avail itself of quality research. Their New York LPD is remarkable, and clearly reflects a detailed source, or sources, were to hand. The "A" team and "B" team everyone refers to. It really boils down to how much quality research material they have for any given subject. And, if the demand for the subject looks profitable, but the research material is only basic, but not great, they will go with what they have.
It would seem Flyhawk does not want to operate this way. They will only put out a subject which they have exceptional amounts of data on, and which their research shows will sell, espcially in the case of a subject where "it's already been done to death before," but people will still buy this one because they made it better quality. Like this Ticonderoga. Done in 1/700 by Skywave, Dragon, Arii, Fujimi off the top of my head. Still, this one sells because of the quality which the company has a reputation for.
So, it looks to me like what you might as well be reading is blueprints. Want Flyhawk to do a subject, and with their brand of quality in it? Find the detailed blueprints if it, contact Flyhawk, and send them. The only other way to know would be to have an inside look at what research materials they have gathered. Failing those options, there's always the tea leaves.
If this were Trumpeter we could probably count on both earlier (mk26 equipped) and later versions of the Tico class, as well as, potentially, Spruance's and Kidd's. I love Flyhawk, for detail, accuracy and quality there are few (if any) who are better. But when it comes to figuring out what they are going to release next you might as try reading tea leaves!
