Heavy Hobby 5" 38 Mounts
Well somebody had to take the plunge and I am glad I did. Yahoo!
I purchased Heavy Hobby’s 3D printed Dual 5”38 guns in 1/700 . I did not realize there were so many MKs of the dual 5”38 guns. Heavy Hobby offers those for the Iowa Class, Atlanta Class, Alaska Class, North Carolina/South Dakota Classes and finally the Mk32 for Essex, Cleveland, Baltimore, Des Moines classes.
They arrive in their own little box, brass barrels are included. Elevation piece which holds the brass barrel printed separately . You insert brass barrel into elevation holder and holder into face of turret. This allows you to adjust the elevation of the guns up or down.
Connecting printing sprues are beneath the turret making it easy to remove from the carrier wafer and turrets are printed in dark gray almost black material. Detail of the turrets are excellent! Now hold onto your seats…….they caught the climb rungs on the outside of the turrets in 3D print. They are actually 3 dimensional!
No more little pieces of photo-etch rungs or flat printed rungs on the turret skin.
I would not recommend airbrush or wet brush of these turrets for you may lose the detail under the paint. These turrets will have to be gently dry brushed. No small task but can be done while turret is still attached to the wafer. Masking for camo schemes an issue as well.
Glad I took the plunge .
