Re: It Would Take Some Surgery
the cut down hull was for stability with the hangar fitted! ALL can be built from any of the kits BUT it involves a lot of details being removed and new built. the entire structure is virtually unique for each ship.
good reference is available in books!!!FRIEDMAN BRITISH CRUISERS , the old MAN O WAR COUNTY CLASS,, SHIPCRAFT COUNTY CLASS, and many books on british cruisers! the internet is just useful for overall photos but the books are generally better!
Suffolk and Cumberland had their sterns cut down to stay within treaty weight limits, so an OOB Cornwall would not work. Airfix correctly portrayed this with their oooold 1960s era Suffolk kit.
Just curious, and I know the information out there is scant, but... based upon the box art, is it likely that the upcoming Trumpy HMS Cornwall could be converted into another of her sub-class? I would like to build the Suffolk as during the Bismarck chase but these ships underwent a number of refits and there were differences, least of which was the cut away stern that several ships received. I believe that Suffolk was one.
Here's the box art: https://freetimehobbies.com/1-350-trumpeter-british-heavy-cruiser-hms-cornwall-preorder/
Many thanks for any pointers or ideas.
