Re: US Enterprise June 42
I am just finishing a build of the same kit. From what I have found, the vertical surfaces were in 5S sea blue. This color weathered and chalked a lot,and I have had fun weathering with filters, washes, dry brushing and pastels. Steel decks were deck blue, 20B I think. The flight deck was stained blue, but again weathered heavily.
I have enjoyed building the kit. You can tell the way the parts are engineered that it was designed so that later versions of the ship could be easily done. For example, all the deck galleries are molded separately from the flight deck, so later AA fits could be done with just a different sprue of deck galleries. The island is similarly designed.
For Enterprise in June 1942 you are basically dealing with three shades of blue. The blue for the hull and superstructure (not gray), the blue for the flight deck stain, and the blue for the steel decks. All three are different shades, similar but different with the deck blue for steel decks being the darkest.
I am building Academy's kit. One detail question I am a little unclear about - were the 5" and 1'1" guns & mounts the same blue as the deck or the same gray as the vertical hull or some other color? TIA
