Re: Sleeping on board ship.
Dad was stationed aboard Essex in the 1960's. His shared stateroom was also beneath the starboard cat/blast shield. Dependent cruise (tiger cruise now)in '68, that thing was rocking and noisy. His rack was fore and aft. He could sleep anywhere, anytime. I am not entirely certain he couldn't sleep standing up and walking. A talent I did not inherit from him unfortunately.
Did a Tiger Cruise on the Nimitz. Slept in a fore-and-aft bottom berth next to a large steam pipe and a couple decks above the screws. Slept like a baby, except for the pooping in bed part. Didn't even notice storm until I saw smaller ship pitching like mad.
Is it better to sleep foreandaft or athwartship?
