Maybe the KGVs by a whisker
An interesting one. The Littorios were faster with heavier main armament. I think the KGVs were more heavily armoured, but I'll bow to better knowledge on this. A draw or slight advantage to the KGV if it got the first hits in.
I sure would like to know what a LITTORIO-class battleship would do against a KGV, one on one. Those Italian beauties never really proved themselves.
Also, a SCHARNHORST against a DUNKERQUE would be of interest.....
Thanks and regards,
A lot of very good information showed up. If anyone has any other battles they are courious about? All battles are in clear weather conditions, and I will post results when played. Thank you all once again!
Using Panzerschiffe game rules, the Scheer is the clear winner. The only battle she lost is when she closed with the Baltimore. The Scheer can easily keep a broadside to the Baltimore, which has to close to get her secondaries into action. The Baltimore must charge the Scheer, she cannot go toe to toe with her main weapons, and her speed advantage did not help.
Ships started at 12 miles apart bow to bow, and fought until one of the ships was sunk.
Who knows what would really happen, but using the game values, that was the outcome.
I will try to answer any questions you might have as best as I can.
