Re: Color of Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941
IT WAS BLUE! ALL BLUE! BLUE BLUE BLUE!!!
I know, because I have secret color photos taken by Nazi spies the day before. I can't share them because the time machine is still top secret! Oops, I've said too much!
Without getting in the "Blue vs Gray" USS ARIZONA debate, the only two battleships at Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 with painted decks were USS NEVADA and USS TENNESSEE. Post-attack photos and documents show this to be the case.
Also, USS ARIZONA would have had her turret tops painted RED according to this chart according to her Battleship Division assignment;
Turrets #1, #2, and #4 would have been so painted. There is some debate whether turret #2 was painted, since Division sister USS NEVADA didn't have her #2 turret painted RED.
I understand that the hull color was dark gray, with no color paint on the top of the turrets.
Was the deck also painted over in a dark blue color or was it the standard teak tan?
