...8 years old when I considered the taking of the wreck of Bismarck as a prize but, even at that age, I realized the practical limits of such a consideration. I'm just not all that caught up in glorifying the Germans in the Second World War.
The base of this 'myth' is the honor or glorification of the Germans. The immediate spark to this is likely some marketing blurb on a book jacket not, typically, written by an author; I doubt any reasonable author is so stupid as to make such a statement.
Obviously scuttling a mortally damaged ship is an appropriate task but to somehow make it out as, ' the British didn't sink the ship ' is as absurd as it is laughable.
