PS Polly Scale RR Pigments
Once Floquil was purchased by RPM formulation either changed on the large bottle RR colors to strictly airbrush or quality control fell off (no surprise). Beware some of the large bottles of Polly Scale RR pigments (Black Cap) had too much thinner not enough pigment to be used by the hand brush meaning it may bead on smooth surfaces. Vigorously shaking these bottles (yes not stirring) will help but test it on the surface you wish to paint and if need be ready to prime or apply two coats remembering not to use your brush as a backhoe....lightly does it. White Caps are still the best find being of original Floquil/Polly Scale formulation.
I have been testing both Testors Acrylic paint 5-N and Polly Scale's Enchantment Blue (RR pigment) and Polly Scale 5-N against the S&S chip cards. My recommendation based upon visual results avoid Testor's Acrylic paint 5-N for use as 5-N. It is spot on Cavite Blue (Late 1941) in a 5-N labeled bottle in my eyes and as up against the S&S chips ( or least the bottles I have, the original flat). Stick with Enchantment Blue Polly Scale as 5-N (but brush painters thin it well) it is spot on the 5-N S&S Chip. Polly Scale original 5-N offering far to light and I will have to disagree with S&S it can not be used as 20B revised. Use B&O Royal Blue (RR pigment) by Polly Scale.
I thought something looked strange when I placed Testors 5-N on paint card and it looked very much like Polly Scale 5-O (which is good straight from the bottle) only to learn it is a good match for Cavite Blue. Now all visually verified.
