High-magnification readers. Your optometrist can supply 4.5x readers. $ but my set has lasted over a decade now. If 3.25x works for you, those are cheap everywhere.
From my local Container Store: "boxbox" clear plastic 1"x1.5" cases, $2.29 for 12 for small parts and assemblies; model car display cases, $9 each for ship, diorama, or assemblies up to 5"x10"; stackable clear plastic sliding drawers. In these containers, my parts and models in progress are much safer from loss and damage.
Scan all PE, decal sheets, instructions, sprues, even box art. If later I need to replace something, at least I know about the kitted original.
Plan the points when to accomplish intricate work. If the model has an overhanging deck, then paint and flatcoat the covered section early in the build. Attach the bottom ends of rigging early to the superstructure, then tighten on the mast later.
Clamp one edge of a large cloth napkin to the work table edge and tuck the opposite edge on me. Dropped parts fall into the napkin, not into the lair of the carpet monster.
