Re: Is that Dorsetshire? (camouflage in 1942)
The photo shows DORSETSHIRE. The only County class ships to carry the type of LA.DCT shown were those of the third group, and NORFOLK carried UP mountings on "B" and "X" turrets from 1940 until they were replaced by light AA guns - the ship in the pohoto has no weapons on those turrets. She has frames for RDF on the LA.DCT and HA.DCTs - DORSETSHIRE was part-way through a refit (March 1942) when the RDF sets should have been fitted; I suspect she sailed
before the work was complete.
Beware of relying totally on Wright's books - they have occasional flaws.
British and Commonwealth Warship Camouflage of WWII Volume 3 by Malcolm Wright states that she still had when sunk the camouflage shown on the box.
Is that ship on the photo really Dorsetshire?
