Re: Aoshima Dorsetshire
I don't know about Lindberg, but you should see the price of these kits over here in the UK. Dorsetshire is a penny under £50.00 (about US$65.00), and a model of King George V will set you back and eye-watering £75.00 (about US$ 100.00). You can buy the Navis/Neptun 1250 scale ships for around the same price.
The Eaglewall/Pyro Dorsetshire is available (at a price) from Lindberg in a twin pack with the KGV.
You're right. The Airfix is ok and the Eagle was 'of its day'.
Yes, two or three of them in recent years. And the old Airfix Suffolk. But I don't really consider those a "nice" county.
Did you get the Eagle Dorsetshire then? (Or, if you are in the US, the Pyro version?)
This kit didn't build into the most accurate of models, but it was good in its day.
Noticed a couple of sellers on ebay are taking pre-orders on the Aoshima Dorsetshire. Quoting July 31 release date. Japanese sellers as best I can tell.
I've waited fifty years for a nice county (yes, literally) so I guess another month won't kill me.
I was probably twelve when I first read "Sink the Bismark". It was my first "war" book and for some odd reason I was hooked on those three funneled cruisers.
