The Forrest Sherman was a good looking DD but, the Fletchers with a late war fit are still #1 to me. The USS Turner Joy is in Bremerton, WA and I have many walk around pictures of her if anyone is interested.
In addition the Revell model represents only the first three of the class (I think), Sherman, JPJ, and Barry. After Barry the rest had a reconfigured bow making the bow a bit higher.
Love to have one myself as the JPJ.
Decent kit, simple, fairly well detailed. As I recall rather easy to mask and paint. Get rid of the molded railings.
Recall seeing what some fellow did with this ancient kit on Brit Modeler, and he went all the way, raising the bow and all, and I believe he did it as Decatur.
In my home town back in the day, having a port call made by a Sumner or Gearing, was an event every month or so. I remember when Morton came to town, and how impressed I was with the difference in size, really bulk, between her and the older classes of DD's I was used to seeing.
Good luck finding one, and please keep us informed about your progress. Still one of the best looking DD's ever in the USN
Can someone advise what models of this class of destroyers were (or are) available.
