Nazi concern about US reaction had impeded starting the "Final Solution"
Hitler's mother died at 47 and most of his siblings
died in childhood. Hitler told others that he expected to die early. His regime was already euthanizing enfeebled Teutons as "useless eaters" but deferred the full-scale extermination of the Third Reich's immigran ... oops, sorry, ethnic minorities, from concern about American reaction. By declaring war on the US, Hitler perversely removed that uncertainty and let him get on with the "Final Solution to the Jewish question" while he lived. The Nazis convened the Wannsee Conference
six weeks later.
I have first cousins whose Jewish other grandfather was thereby murdered by asphyxiation in 1943 at a site too primitive to be called a concentration camp.
