Bill Devins joined me on a visit to the Intrepid in the early 1980s. Bill is the guy who looks like the "Frito Bandito" (a snack food character who is no longer politically correct, as I understand it). Bill was one of the original group of modelers from NJIPMS who joined my crew building models for the Intrepid. My, how we've all aged. Also appearing in one of the photos is noted US Navy Historian, Tom Walkowniak, wearing the Intrepid cap. We're looking at models of aircraft carriers stored in the hangar deck compartment formed by the overhanging angled deck added to the carrier in the 1950's. One of the models is the post-war carrier, the USS Midway CV-41, the other was an angled deck Essex, as I recall, but it's hard to tell from the photo. The guy to the far right in that photo is my college frat brother, Brian Hayes. I'm not sure why I have a bottle of red wine in the shots of us in the Intrepid's Combat Information Center (CIC), but wine is always a good addition to any occasion, naval, or not.
