Popping the snorkel

I talked to a "tea kettle tech" about his doing work on his attack boat while at sea. Any time welding had to be done on major parts they would pop the snorkel and swap out the air. The boat would roll and pitch like a barrel. The petty officer said he hated it because he was prone to sea-sickness on the submarine when it was rolling & pitching. He was the one who was usually doing the heavy work so was highly motivated to do it right, do it fast, get it inspected, and re-install the part so they could submerge. He discovered that the USN does not care if you're sea-sick. You still have a job to do.
