Acetone is known to melt 3D-printed acrylic plastic.
Several customers have reported that Bestine can chemically damage the plastic, too.
Although those products have been shown to effectively clean Shapeways' "Frosted Detail" products, since there have been more than a few reports of damage caused by prolonged exposure, I strongly advise not soaking your products in those materials for long.
Instead, mild, water-based detergents such as "Dawn", "Fairy" or "Simple Green" are recommended. Those products have been shown to be safe with Shapeways' 3D-printed "Frosted Detail" acrylic plastic.
For smoothing Frosted Detail models' surfaces, a relatively inexpensive "air eraser" emitting common household baking soda as the grit is a terrific tool for smoothing surfaces without harming detail. Air erasers cost about $30 USD. Models by Harbor Freight and Paasche are popular. Here's a link to one: https://www.harborfreight.com/air-eraseretching-kit-69277.html
Air erasers can be used to remove paint, too, without using harsh chemicals.
