If you have the book by Squadron Escort carriers in action #4009 has on page 12 lower left a B&W photo of the Altamaha painted in measure 21 with the collapsible wind break fence up at the bow .It's mountings appears
to be at where flight deck wood meets the steel
curve on the front of the flight deck.
This paint scheme is dark and could cause the fence to bend in.
: I am currently hurtling toward completion of
: the Skyhawk 1/700 Bogue class being built as
: USS Altamaha CVE-18/AVG-18. She is being
: built as during/immediately after the
: typhoon of 18 Dec 1944 with a deck load of
: damaged aircraft.
: My question is; did she have a collapsible
: windbreak fitted immediately forward of her
: forward lift. I do not believe that the
: Bogue Class carried such a device. I have
: been unable to locate an image to clarify
: this, but have a clear image of the
: Casablanca Class USS Ommaney Bay CVE-79 with
: a full deck load of aircraft and the
: windbreak clearly visible in the raised
: Please could someone confirm or deny my
: thoughts and findings.
