The reason I say that some of the survey photos MAY be in the US Army Signal Corp records, is that depending on who was assigned to which survey group. The US Army would have been responsible during the occupation for most of the regions in Japan and Survey parties would have looked at aircraft, shore installations, military equipment, and likely surviving ships with representatives from both services. Plus, if the US Army was responsible for writing or compiling the report, copies of all photos would have been given to them no matter who the photographer was. But, I simply don't know where the bulk of the survey photos, if they survived, are located. Quite possibly the actual reports. including copies of the photos, are located in Textual Records at the US National Archives. It has not been part of my research interest to find them.
: Hi Rick,
: it would be really helpful, if you find some
: photos of Aoba.
: I would also expect that the wrecks were
: surveyed by specialists and documented. But
: why army photographers? And not navy?
: I have started to built Aoba in her last fit
: - but it is on hold in the hope that more
: photos will appear.
