First, let me say that I strongly support the ban on political and theological discussions. In my 70 years I have seen plenty of political debate, and it usually produces more heat than light. That is not what I am looking for at the Steel Navy message board.
For the most part our interest is in ship models and in warships generally. That being said, we have to remember that the design, development and employment of warships is often strongly influenced by political factors. As an American, I am often appalled by some of the decisions we make about the U.S. Navy. I find it interesting that some of the British members of our group share the same frustrations about the decisions made by their government.
My point is, that when you discus warships a certain amount of political content could be viewed as legitimate. The problem comes when some folks get carried away and the rhetoric becomes angry or abusive.
As far as I know, the ban on political discussion is still in place and will continue to be so. Felix does a good job as the enforcer, but sometimes it comes down to a judgment call on what is appropriate. My personal choice is to err on the side of caution.
