: In my quest of going through the 80-G
: collection at NARA, I have been keeping my
: eye out for "good" images of the
: former IJN NAGATO after the USN acquired
: her. All I have been finding have generally
: been poor images taken in September 1945 or
: afterwards, normally in overcast weather.
: However the last two trips to NARA I have
: come across photos taken by at least two
: different photographers from some of the
: first USN ships to arrive in Tokyo Bay. One
: area of NAGATO at the end of the war that
: has always puzzled me, was the midships area
: aft of the stack and in front of the stack.
: The Japanese had cutdown the stack and the
: mainmast tripod prior to the end of the war,
: but it was unclear what was going on around
: where the stack HAD been. I finally have a
: couple of good photos of that area.
: It looks like a "SHACK" was added
: aft of the stack!!! It is pretty clear from
: the series of photos that moist of her
: secondary armament had been removed as was
: already known. But these photos give a
: pretty good idea of where the guns had been
: and what the bulwarks around those guns
: looked like.
