Here are some places in Normandie that you have to see:
D-Day Beaches, Omaha Beach and the US Cemetary are of course mandatory. Very emotional.
I would add: Mulberry harbour in Arromanches and its museum, Pegasus Bridge close to Caen and the Mémorial Museum in Caen. All these places are D-Day related.
Now for monuments and cities:
Le Mont Saint-Michel, Honfleur, Caen
If you are a submarine fan: La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg where you can visit Le Redoutable first French nuclear submarine. On the way to Cherbourg you can stop in Sainte-Mère Eglise to pay a visit to the Airborne Museum dedicated to the US paratroops.
