On my ship, DER 251, U.S.S. CAMP, stationed at Newport, R.I. in 1963-65, we had a tiny canvas intended to cover the quarterdeck when in port; I believe I recall it still being rigged when we were at Pearl Harbor in 19765 and 1965. It was ratty but was decorated with some very nice "MacNamara's Lace" courtesy of one of the bos'ns mates. Trying to get a replacement canvas out of the supply system was futile.
: First, thanks for the photos (especially the
: Almirante Latorre).
: My question, the RN liked awnings and seem
: to have rigged them whenever they could
: (various books talk about their care and
: maintenance, and how to rig them properly
: and neatly). Did the USN also use them
: often ?
