How is bringing artifacts to the surface any different than what conventional archeologist have been doing on land for centuries? Tens of thousands of graves of soldiers who were buried where they perished, have been “plundered” by reputable archeologist. I recently read an article in Smithsonian Magazine about them exhuming the grave of a warrior several thousand years old, is that not also wrong? I am not defending the actions of any of these people, but simply asking is the knowledge we gain, yes even from plates and cups, not worth the effort? Just to be clear, I’m not saying that any of this stuff should end up in some “collectors” closet, but if it is used by a reputable source to increase our knowledge of “how it was”, is that really so bad?
