Most of the Iowa class is not armoured

To destroy a ship - its fighting capabilities - it is not necessary to destroy the armoured part. If the superstructure is destroyed, the ship has no sensors, no radars, no directors... If the bow is destroyed, the speed is reduced massively etc. Also the deck armour is much weaker...
And for sure it would be possible to design missiles to destroy also the strongest armour (e.g. the armoured belt and parts of the turrets) without problems, if armour would be still in use.
