to refer to a US warship as the
USS Iowa (for example) makes sense: the 'United States Ship Iowa'. It doesn't make sense to refer to a RN ship as the
HMS Daring as this is both clumsy and incorrect: as in 'The Her Majesty's Ship Daring'.
This is something the media do all the time over here. It's a bit like referring to a SAM as a 'SAM Missile' which they also do.
