All three kits were re-issued with different names, box art, and decals in subsequent years.
IIRC, the folded wing Cougars were originally part of the FDR kit.
: According to Revell Inc., the kit was based on
: the USS Bennington, CV-20. The reason the
: hull is too narrow, they used the WWII era
: pre-torpedo blistered hull width. I never
: got an explanation for the Stretched Island.
: Mold was changed several times (minor Flight
: deck change, new aircraft, space capsules,
: and Catapult Horns) and more than one mold
: existed at one time, but only one remains.
: This was damaged in 2010 when a test shot
: was made to check the mold for a 2012
: release, later repaired by Revell of Germany
: who issued the USS Hornet CVS-12 in 2014.
: Kit was the second Aircraft Carrier kit
: issued by Revell. It has been issued as the
: Essex, Lexington( both as a CVA and a CVT),
: Bon Hom Richard, Oriskany, Yorktown, Wasp,
: Hornet, and Shangri La (Revell Germany
: only). It was also part of a 3 ship gift set
: (ship name slips my mind at the moment).
: 3 different Air Groups were available:
: Attack; Anti-Sub; and Training. The Wasp
: issue came with Gemini Capsule on a trailer.
: Hornet issue came with the Apollo Capsule on
: a Trailer.
: In 2010, I was asked about what could be
: modified and changed to update this kit.
: Myself and a few others submitted a list of
: reasonable changes similar to what Revell
: did to the Forrestal Kit in the late '80 to
: modernize and update the kit. Unfortunately
: the owners of Revell would not budget the
: modifying tooling and with the tool damaged
: when a test shot was attempted, this was
: I hope a few others can also shed some light
: on this kit that was the first kit for many
: of us who now build and support our hobby.
