Chances are, neither the admiral (nor any of the crew) felt lucky at the moments when Lt. Rex Barber's P-38's 4-.50s and 20mm were transforming the G4M from a long range land attack plane to a wreck subject to the laws of gravity, physics and thermochemistry.
Operation Vengeance was successful.
