I don't have any photos of the Shangri-la during her time on the east coast but I did find this . Which may explain the east coast to west coast transfer.
It's like this . When the Korean war broke out
among the ships recommissioned for it was 2 carriers The Antietam CV-36 and Shangri-la CV-38.
The Antietam was home ported in San Diego and the Shangri-la in Boston. In navy crews are married men with families and these families lived in the homeport town.
In August 1952 the Shangri-la was ordered to the Pacific fleet and the Antietam was assigned to the Atlantic fleet . To save money in moving families across country the navy had the 2 carriers meet in Bayonne NJ and exchanged crews and then sailed to the shipyards for modernization. Both ships entered shipyards for modernization at the same time Antietam in New York to try the angle deck concept and the Shangri-la to recieve the SCB -27A modernization.
In 1953 the Antietam trials with the angle deck
was successful and the Shangri-la got the SCB-125
as she was being rebuilt. Hope this helps.
This was first attempt at this. Perhaps they still do this.
The book I got this from is called Flattops and Fledglings by Garth Pawlowski,Castle Books,1971
: ....source material is confusing.
: DANFS has her

: Recommissioned 10 Jan 1955
: Does not make a lot of sense for her to go

: your dates would suggest only to return to

: I think the answer might be that there were

: What I do know is the 16 and 38 went to

: I believe DANFS is correct. I just cant find
