P-36 and P-40 pursuits which were able to launch and engage IJN carrier aircraft (P-36, 2 kills, P-40s, 7 or 8) at Pearl Harbor destroyed either 9 or 10 A6Ms and D3A1s.
Which meant AA took down 19 or 20 of the total 29 IJN A/C lost in the attack.
Is there any known breakdown which estimates what ship-based weapons were most effective? Water cooled M2 .50 machine guns were fastest to bring into action and likely did the most damage, but did some 1.1 quads get into action and were they effective?
Only a guess, but 3" and 5" heavy AA would have been slower to get into service and not too effective against low-flying, nimble targets.
