Its now over a decade ago.
A day like today.
A summer time Saturday.
The railroad wasn't quite as busy as it is today.
Grain & ore were running.
And a occasional move into Connellsville.
Not far from home, a move to Connellsville is slowly coming together.
A slab train is coming off Chessie in Connellsville.
The slabs are headed for Mingo Junction.
A tonnage train.
The slab train is not due till later in the day.
The crew taking the power East has a interesting consist.
A couple Thoroughbreds from NS...
A leaser from Montana...
And two company locomotives, one being black and the other still painted blue.
At Longview, near where I have lived most of my life.
The crew has stopped and is working Mifflin Jct.
The trailing six axle has been cut away from the consist.
And is making the side trip over the Mifflin Branch.
The balance of the power will sit on the main.
East of the branch main track switch.
Retired Centralized Traffic Control sentinels still stand guard.
Relieved of their responsibilities years earlier.
As is the lone concrete abutment up ahead.
Where coal trains of the Montour R.R. once crossed above.
When the sun comes up tomorrow morning.
The consist will be split in two.
With 2 units on the rear and three up front.
Then wrestle the hills of the ol'e P&WV...
