Most of my theory came from experience dealing with the UTU. The class 1 carriers didn't want to change the HOS, they were happy (almost) with the old rules.
The union was loosing membership and knew that an HOS change would almost force the carriers to hire more employees. Hours were one of the biggest complaints from railroaders so the unions pushed the issue to congress. So here we are July 16th with a fresh new set of HOS rules that pull money out of the pockets of (some) people that want to work.
I don't care to be in a union, I would have never found another job after getting layed off from a union fire department if I did. I don't care to pay the dues or reap the so called benifits...however when the unions are helping to make rules that effect my paycheck...once again...I get pissed off.
Now that we ventured off of the W&LE enough, I'll end my part of this conversation.
