I was in Bellevue Saturday on the ORHS excursion. I spent much of the layover watching all the traffic on the three NS lines.
The former W&LE mainline from the current W&LE trackage across the NKP/PRR and
through the middle of the wye was torn out. A train cannot run up the Wheeling
and continue onto Toledo without changing directions.
While we were there talking, a Wheeling & Lake Erie mixed freight ran north on
the former NKP/PRR around the wye and up the Toledo Line.
When I was there last year, I saw a train run south on the NKP/PRR from the yards and turn onto the Wheeling directly without changing directions. So the connection runs from the "north" to the "east" (NE quadrant).
Why would the WE train be running northbound? Do they pull north off of WE
trackage, back onto the NKP or PRR, and then head across the south leg of the
wye to Toledo?
Or was the train running up the former PRR from the Carey Sub?
Does any of this make sense?
