OK, then what started the "We want a lower price" deal in the first place? Foreign companies dumping products on us.
It was our government refusing to put import taxes on things coming into this country, while those countries were taxing the crap out of anything we sent there. So they could just dump products on us at cost, and either put our industry out of business or force them to move manufacturing to their countries giving their people jobs. It worked great.
WE built the Japanese industries after the war, while ours were 40+ years old. WE sat back while American companies moved jobs overseas.
Now they jacked the prices up to what we paid before, or higher (with inflation). BUT we're making a fraction of what we were then. The average car is over 10 years old now, for the first time since the war. THAT'S progress.
ANd now WE subsidize auto companies who build most of their stuff in other countries or buy supplies from foreign suppliers. And WE are forcing them to cut jobs to get that money (the Pontiac closing and the Chrysler Twinsburg plant are two examples).
So what can the Ohio Valley offer than China can't? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm trying to stimulate thought.
So, you guys can celebrate the "clean-up" trains on your favorite line, just get a LOT of pictures. Trust me, I know.
